STOTT PILATES® Intensive Mat-Plus™ Instructor Training

April 23rd-26th AND April 30th-May 3rd, Thursdays-Sundays 12:00-5:30

This course is intended for those already working in the fields of fitness or movement, as well as those who are unable to devote the time required in our Comprehensive Program due to work and/or scheduling issues. Conducted over 2 weeks or 3 weekends. Building on your industry knowledge it teaches you to design and lead the Level 1 Essential and Intermediate STOTT PILATES Matwork repertoire, for personal or group training settings for a range of clients. You will leave with a solid foundation and required skills to develop effective and motivating Pilates Matwork programs.

What you will learn:

  • The STOTT PILATES Five Basic Principles

  • Essential, Intermediate, Power workouts

  • Flex-Band, Fitness Circle and Arc Barrel variations

  • Effective communication and observational skills

  • Verbal cueing and imagery for performance enhancement and client motivation

  • Theory and practice of postural analysis

  • 63 exercises plus modifications for specific body types, postural issues and conditions

  • How to incorporate resistance equipment to support and intensify exercises

  • Exercise layering related to effective program design

  • Workout composition for personal and group training

Requirements of Certification

  • 40 hours of instruction and supervised teaching

  • Minimum of 10 hours of observation

  • Minimum of 30 hours of physical review

  • Minimum of 15 hours of practice teaching

  • Total: 95 hours

Observation, Practice Teaching & Physical Review

A minimum number of hours of observation, practice teaching and physical review are required for all courses and should be completed between instructed sessions at any STOTT PILATES® facility. Additional training may be required before certification. Practice teaching and physical review hours must be logged outside of class time and submitted at the time of the practical exam.

Observation

Includes watching sessions taught by a STOTT PILATES Certified Instructor or relevant STOTT PILATES videos.

Physical Review

Means physically performing the exercises learned in class. Taking a class with a STOTT PILATES Certified Instructor or working out with video can qualify as physical review hours, and can be completed individually or with other students.

Practice Teaching

Hours can be fulfilled by instructing family, fellow students, friends or clients.

Continuing Education Credits

Cost for course is $1700 plus HI state tax and course materials.

Precision & Control with the Fitness Circle

Long used as a staple in private and group training sessions, this workout developed by the Merrithew™ team, demonstrates how the Fitness Circle can be incorporated into a series of less traditional Matwork exercises. The resistance ring adds challenge to the peripheral limbs, activates the core and helps achieve increased functionality and improved performance. It also reinforces correct muscle firing patterns and helps ensure correct positioning while adding an element of fun and variety.

Prenatal Pilates on the Reformer

Learn the benefits of taking moms-to-be from traditional Matwork variations to select exercise modifications on the Reformer in this workshop, developed by the Merrithew™ team. Using current exercise guidelines provided by the ACOG and bearing in mind common anatomical and physiological changes, appropriate STOTT PILATES® exercise adaptations are explored using the Reformer in innovative and beneficial ways. Workout safety and effectiveness remain paramount and the client’s risk factors, pre-pregnancy fitness level, health concerns and fitness goals are to be taken in to account when creating new and ongoing programs.

Total Barre® Instructor Training Course

Learn choreography, exercise essence and correct biomechanics of movement, as well as how to effectively utilize the power of music to create safe and fun barre classes that focus on increasing strength, flexibility, stamina and dynamic stability. The predominantly standing workouts are driven by music which, when used appropriately, has been proven to increase coordination, motivation and improve movement quality. Incorporating the Total Barre Foundational Principles, this program not only teaches choreography but pays particular attention to exercise essence and correct biomechanics of movement.

Optimization of the Lumbo-Pelvic Region Part A & B

This two-part lecture/demo, developed by the Merrithew™ team, explores the anatomy and biomechanics involved in a normal healthy functioning lumbo-pelvic region then applies these fundamentals in an effort to optimize function.

Part A: Form and function
This covers the functional anatomy and therapeutic foundational concepts within the context of the lumbar spine, the pelvis, the hip and all associated musculature.

Part B: Programming and application of STOTT PILATES exercises
This applies the theory learned in part A and attempts to identify programming priorities and determine appropriate exercises designed to optimize the function of the lumbo-pelvic region.

Learning objectives

  • Part A: Form and function

    1. Understand the integrated model of joint stability within the context of the lumbo-pelvic region

    2. Understand the functional muscle classification system within the context of the lumbo-pelvic region

    3. Review the functional anatomy of the lumbo-pelvic region

    4. Understand current concepts of stability and review stabilization strategies for the lumbo-pelvic region

  • Part B: Programming and application of STOTT PILATES exercises

    1. Understand programming goals and exercise management for the lumbo-pelvic region

    2. Learn how to apply STOTT PILATES biomechanical principles of core stability, breathing and alignment to all exercises

    3. Learn exercise goals, muscular initiation and movement sequencing to maximize outcomes

    4. Develop recognition of optimal and non-optimal movement patterns

    5. Learn effective communication, verbal cues and imagery for performance enhancement and corrective strategies
