STOTT PILATES® Beyond the Biomechanical Principles

STOTT PILATES® Beyond the Biomechanical Principles

Saturday November 5th 11:00am - 2:00pm

The STOTT PILATES Principles form the foundation of the STOTT PILATES Movement System and provide the initial framework for programming. These concepts, when applied appropriately and strategically, will facilitate awareness and ensure optimal alignment as well as appropriate engagement of required muscles in clients. For the instructor, these Principles act as a reference tool that can be continually utilized when systematically evaluating and correcting static and dynamic alignment through any and all movement sequences. In each case, we'll examine what the Principle is, why it is important within a programming context, and how we can use movement to reinforce and integrate it into the system as a whole. This workshop, created by the Merrithew programming team, presents the Principles and shows how they are related to movement patterns crucial to optimal function and discusses their application to any type of activity as a platform for instructors at any level.

Learning objectives

  1. Discover how the STOTT PILATES Principles form the foundation for any type of movement programming.

  2. Experience movements that illustrate the what, why and how of each Principle.

  3. Learn how the individual Principles support and facilitate movement patterns crucial for functional activity for all clients.

  4. Explore how the Principles have been evolved based on current scientific research in movement and exercise physiology.

STOTT PILATES® Matwork Interval Training, Level 2

4:00 PM16:00

STOTT PILATES® Matwork Interval Training, Level 2

Mix up your workouts and maximize power, endurance and metabolic potential with this simple but effective Matwork exercises, developed by the Merrithew™ team. Studies show that in order to continue seeing results, long-time clients need to challenge muscle memory and mix up training methodology. Sticking to the same workout routine may cause them to plateau. Combinations of movements integrate different planes and motor patterns in more intense intervals, and provide more challenge once a level of stability and strength has been established. Incorporate the theories of interval training and even those who doubt the benefits of Pilates will ‘feel the workout’.

Learning objectives

  1. Apply STOTT PILATES Five Basic Principles to select Matwork exercises

  2. Understand how endurance and strength can be increased through Matwork

  3. Learn simple movement sequences that build in intensity

  4. Create variety and challenge while focusing on alignment and movement quality

Cost is $130 plus GE tax

Modifications of exercises and considerations for limited mobility and strength issues are discussed with a view to enhance core stability, increase lean muscle mass, increase range of motion and improve body awareness.

Learning objectives

  1. Apply the STOTT PILATES® Five Basic Principles of stabilization to select Reformer exercises

  2. Understand how movements may need to be modified for older adults

  3. Discover why STOTT PILATES exercise is beneficial in cases of restricted mobility
